Solid Coffee Maker with Great Carafe,
I had this model under the Black and Decker brand for over 10 years and was very satisfied with it. My favorite point to this coffee maker was the insulated carafe. It kept the coffee hot enough until I finished the pot. It needed no burner to keep on or over-cook the coffee. The carafe’s best feature was that it poured out without dribbling all over ( something most all coffee makers fail at ).
When the switch finally did break, I was given a gift of the Cusinart 4-cup cofeemaker with a stainless steel carafe. What a piece of junk it was. The carafe poured more coffee on the couter than the in the cup. Also, the warmer burned the coffee in the carafe ( YUK ). The Cuisinart lasted a few months and then broke ( YEAH – I could get rid of it without insulting the gift giver ).
I searched Amazon and found this Jerdon model which was the same as the Black and Decker which well-served me so many years. Of course, I bought it. When it arrived I could not have been more exicted – it was like Christmas morning to me.
The only difference from my original was the coffee grounds basket. The original had a cone-shaped basket, with a filter. The cone shaped filter does make a little better flavored coffee, with less grounds ( fortunatly I kept my old one for some reason and use it ).
I highly recommend this pot if you are looking for a small coffee maker. It works and the price is right. My only dislike is that it’s not made in USA.

|great little coffee maker,
I’ve had this coffee maker for about 4 years before it broke. I used it 3-4 times a week and more often when we had company. I paid $25 for it at a black and decker store in Laughlin. It has been a great value and I was happy to be able to find it again on Amazon. I rated it 4 instead of 5 because my old one had a nylon/plastic filter that I could rinse and re-use. The new one requires paper filters. I just swapped the filter basket from my old coffee maker to the new one. It doesn’t matter where this was built, it’s a good product and I recommend it.

|Follow-up to my 2009 review Jerdon21B brewer,
This follow-up review is in response to several reviewers’ complaints and low ratings.
1. Use an 8-cup paper filter and appx. 3 Tbs. of ground coffee for each full 24 oz. of FILTERED water.
2. Descale the brewer every 2-3 weeks for optimal performance. Wipe off the sprayer to prevent clogging.
3. Room temp water will heat faster than cold. Fill the brewer up to 1/4″ of the top which will produce appx 22 oz. of coffee. Refrigerated filtered water can be heated in the brewer for several minutes by leaving the cover up. Do NOT allow water to overheat. Tap the brew basket to evenly distribute coffee grounds.
4. When brewing is finished, wait several minutes for all the coffee to drip into the carafe, OR open brewer cover, fold down the paper filter over coffee grounds and press down with a spoon to extract all the liquid. Some liquid will remain in the carafe cover which should be rinsed with fresh water, tapped and allowed to drain. This brewer is designed to completely contain hot liquid and prevent exposure to cool air. The carafe and cover EXPAND when hot which is why it is somewhat difficult to remove the cover. Allow to cool down before removal.
5. The brewed coffee has been tested for freshness and quality after 24 hours. It tastes no different from the moment it was made because there is no burner/warmer to cook the coffee. However, to be on the safe side, refrigerate left over coffee and reheat in the microwave oven, or prepare iced coffee. Always check the carafe before brewing a fresh pot to make sure there is no left over beverage, because you cannot SEE the contents.
All in all I am very satisfied with this brewer even though it took a bit of time getting used to it. Incidentally, a standard coffee or tea cup measurement is 5-6 oz., while a mug can measure up to 12 oz. and thermos bottles even more. As stated above, this brewer will produce appx. 22 oz. of beverage using appx. 3 Tbs. of drip (medium fine) grind coffee.
